The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) is research-intensive, market-focused, career-oriented, and a leader among North American universities in implementing and using course/industry specific software for laptop learning. UOIT invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences.
The UOIT Faculty of Health Sciences is committed to the advancement of health through education and research. It focuses on the integration of knowledge and practice, and on the development of inter-professional models of research and service delivery. With access to state-of-the-art health and educational technology, students are offered learning opportunities which take them from the bench to the bedside to the community. Undergraduate programs, with current enrolments of 1,000 students, include a BHSc, an accredited BHSc with a specialization in Medical Laboratory Science, and a degree-completion Bachelor of Allied Health Science for diploma graduates. In addition, the Faculty, in partnership with Durham College, offers an accredited BScN which includes streams for post?diploma RNs and RPNs. The Faculty will be launching a Master's in Health Sciences in September 2009, pending Ministry approval.
The Faculty of Health Sciences has close partnerships with hospitals and community health care agencies across Durham Region and Northumberland County, giving students and faculty a wide range of clinical, research, educational and practical learning experiences. Faculty members have a wide variety of backgrounds and are actively involved in building community/university research partnerships that focus on health issues involving hospitals, public health organizations, and social service agencies. Current research foci in the Faculty include the use of technology in health education and health care; health informatics; health policy; work environment and human health resources; environmental factors and cancer; and health service access issues. Reporting to the Provost, the Dean is the chief academic and operating leader of the Faculty of Health Sciences and a member of the University's senior leadership team. He or she is accountable for strategic vision, for ensuring the academic quality and integrity of the Faculty, for program accreditation, and for working to enhance its research profile. The ideal candidate will be a proven leader with an exceptional record of achievement, commitment to excellence in research and teaching, and an entrepreneurial style. Energy and drive, superior communication abilities, and excellent interpersonal skills are required. Appropriate academic credentials and a strong background in the health sciences are essential.
