Founded in 1868, the Faculty of Medicine is one of Canada's oldest accredited schools of medicine. It has campuses in Halifax and Saint John, New Brunswick, 14 affiliated teaching hospitals, more than 100 teaching sites across the Maritimes and global health electives throughout the world. The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine will be a distinguished,visionary leader, communicator and educator with outstanding academic and professional achievements, and a record as an exemplary administrator, preferably with experience in fundraising, building collaborative teams, and in relating to a range of partners in universities, government and the healthcare sector. As part of the senior administration and leading a team of Associate/Assistant Deans, Department Heads and Centre Directors, the Dean is responsible for relations with affiliated teaching hospitals and other health care institutions and professions. The Dean serves on a variety of boards including those of the Capital District Health Authority,administering the Maritimes' most extensive array of tertiary health care services; the IWK Health Centre, operating the region's chief paediatric and obstetrics care facility; and Horizon Health Network, one of two health authorities in the province of New Brunswick.
