Budget Advances Yardstick on Research & Innovation
The Association of Canadian Academic Healthcare Organizations (ACAHO) is encouraged to see that Budget 2013 clearly identifies the potential of world-class research and innovation as a key driver of Canada's long-term prosperity and overall quality of life. Recognizing current economic realities, Budget 2013 contains a number of important measures which support the mission of the country's research hospitals, academic regional health authorities and their research institutes - which are engines of innovation and play a unique role in discovering and applying new knowledge that improves the health of Canadians and the performance of the health system. ACAHO is also supportive of the Budget's focus on strengthening the role of the private sector in driving innovation and future prosperity (See News Release)

ACAHO, Investing in Clinical Trials & The Hill Times
In the February 4th edition of The Hill Times, ACAHO commented on the state of clinical trials in Canada along with Senator Kelvin Ogilvie. As well, the Association took the opportunity to remind Parliamentarians and senior decision makers in Ottawa about the importance and impact of investing in clinical trials.

ACAHO, CIHR and Rx&D make progress on Action Plan – Updates to CT portal
On September 15, 2011 Rx&D, CIHR and ACAHO launched the National Clinical Trials Summit which has now resulted in an action plan to Help Attract More Clinical Trials to Canada. Over a year later, the effort continues. Read the updates on the CT portal.

Release of Senate Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology report on Clinical Trials
Earlier this month, the Senate Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology released its report entitled "Clinical Trial Infrastructure in Canada". The report echoes the recommendations in the "To Your Health and Prosperity Action Plan" and calls for a much stronger leadership role for the federal government in Canada. Discussions are being pursued on the potential implications for the Action Plan & ACAHO members.
